The Yule Goat, Julbock or Julebukk has been linked to Germanic pagan origins, possibly derived from the Norse god Thor, who, according to legend, rode in a chariot across the sky by two mythical goats, Tanngnjóstr (Toothgnasher) and Tanngrisnir (Toothgrinder).
In ancient times, the Wild Hunt was a ghostly procession of supernatural figures in the sky, led by Odin and the Yule Goat was sometimes associated with this, though its role later evolved into a gift-giver or jolly prankster. This may be the origin story of another legendary figure who flies in the sky and delivers gifts.
